Internship Program of MATS Law School

Clinical Program

Why Internship?

Getting a job after graduation is a real challenge, especially when one doesn’t have any work experience. The irony is: to get work experience one must first get a job. We consider ‘Internship’ as the only solution for this. Hence internship at MATS Law School is mandatory and is the main strategy for improving the ‘employability’ of our students.
Internships provide required work experience opportunities to students. Employers are willing to engage students as interns, especially if the intern is willing to work with little or no monetary compensation. However, the benefits of doing an internship extend beyond the monetary compensation. Some of the benefits of doing an internship are:

  • Gain Valuable Work Experience: Internship provides an opportunity to gain valuable work experience that a student just can’t get in the class room.
  • Have an Edge in the Job Market: Employers usually are more concerned with the work experience than the qualifications and internship is the only way to get the work experience required to secure a job. Many Law Firms recruit students who have done an internship with them or with similar law firms and in the more competitive job market it is essential to set yourself apart from the others.
  • Transition in to a Job: Employers see interns as prospective employees and many students finish their internships and return with a PPO (Pre Placement Offer) to work with the company full time after the graduation. Law Firms find internship as the number one way to recruit new staff.
  • Ecide if this is the Right Career for you: internships helps you understand whether this is the right career for you and whether it is the right place for you to work. Since internships are generally for short term (say 4 to 6 weeks) you can test your future career without any commitment and find out whether it is a career that will satisfy you.
  • Networking Opportunities: Internships are the best way to meet and interact with people in the same field. Internship gets you the opportunity to meet people who might help you getting a job later on and give you the contacts in the legal profession. More important, reference from people in the legal profession will really add weight to your CV and your application for a job or higher studies abroad.
  • Apply Class room knowledge: Internship gives you an opportunity to use the skills a student has learnt in the class room in a real-world setting.
  • Gain Confidence: Getting valuable work experience and meeting people in the profession are the great ways to build your confidence. After a series of internship during the 5 years of study at MATS Law School, you will have a very impressive CV, which will make you more confident to face any interview. If an interviewer asks if you know how to do something, we are sure, you won’t say “mm, yes, I think I will be able to do that” instead you will say “absolutely” and supplement your assertion with examples.
